The Story of PHS
The Origin
Psychological Health Services, LLC, also known as PHS, came to Holton, Kansas early in 2012 as a culmination of a dream owned for years by a local woman. Jessica Snyder spent most of her life in Holton and loved living close to her large extended family. Early in high school a dream of becoming a psychologist began to grow in Jessica’s heart. She began attending educational lectures at Menninger Hospital and found that she loved the study of the human mind.
Upon graduating from Holton High Jessica pursued her dream beginning first at the University of Kansas and then earning her bachelors and masters degrees from Washburn University. With a goal of “hanging a shingle” and bring high-quality mental health care back to the Holton community Jessica set her sights on a clinical level license that would allow her to operate a private practice independently.
When it came time it was a leap of faith that led Jessica to begin her practice at 626 Nebraska avenue; renting a part of the building from a local retired dentist. Jessica’s compassionate and high-quality care quickly gained the confidence of the community and the practice grew far more rapidly than expected leading Jessica to grow this into a full-time mental health clinic just 8 months after opening.
A Leap of Faith Pays Off
PHS moved around to a few different offices throughout the years before Jessica and her husband came full-circle purchasing and renovating the original office location at 626 Nebraska in 2017. The renovation was a massive undertaking taking the space from a a 1970’s dental office to an inviting and comfortable environment for people to do the hard work of healing.
Continuing to Grow
In 2018 Jessica began growing the practice to expand the services PHS could offer the community and sought to find highly skilled therapists to provide mental health assistance with integrity and quality. Jessica hopes to provide job opportunities to therapists in the Jackson County community and bring therapists to the community that help expand the availability of quality mental health-care services.
Our Future
PHS will continue to aim high in providing high-quality research based mental health services to the community. Jessica’s desire is to serve the Lord in offering help that leads people on the journey of healing towards hope. We hope to be a source of help to the community and a source of desirable employment for people that seek to make the Holton community their home.
